Sound strategies win any game of course, and cards are drawn which is fine, but if somebody draws an Exploding kitten, do you know what happens? They die, of course, unless a Defuse card saves them with lasers and belly rubbing. Every other card in the game helps to prevent that kitty danger! What happens really in Exploding Kittens for PC?
Nothing much really to worry about and no violence if that is what the word ‘exploding’ suggests! Among the 52 cards, you have four kittens. What it indicates is that if you pick it up and cannot protect yourself with an antidote, you explode in the sense that you quit the game. Exploding and quitting happens to everyone until a single player is left who is declared the winner.
Technically speaking
A supremely backed Kickstarter game at numero uno, Exploding Kittens is the most funded game in Kickstarter history that raised $8 million during its development. The Oatmeal illustrates the cards. Sold for $20, the Exploding Kittens card game is well worth the price when you realize that it would continue to entertain for years. Rather than the clever reasoning of a chess game or the shrewish traditional card games, here is a fabulous touch of humor to carry you through boring afternoons and party and picnic events. Being compared to Russian roulette does indicate a hint of gambling, though it is the most innocent game with logical consequences. ‘Kittens that can kill’ is metaphorically true, though, since unlucky players get extinguished from the game. Goats and magical enchiladas yet remain undiscovered, though social gatherings will discover a new culture of appropriate highs in keeping with nerds who like things and avoid people.
A game for how many and what ages?
Card games are usually played in a small group of 4 or 5 players and so is the norm with Exploding Kittens. A larger group of 9 could play, but they would need two decks of cards!
Recommended for kids of 7 years and above, an adult version exists called NSFW a (not safe for adults) and you need not meddle with that. Children of 5 or 6 years could play the game fine and adults too for the card minded. You do not need professional card playing experience, only a liking for the card culture. You don’t find kings and queens, jack and aces though. This new cat based fantasy world is ingeniously designed and rather refreshing in comparison. Simple too without all those numbers to match and the different heart and diamond shapes and colors.

The real thing opens up with the contents of the pack that basically contains a deck of 52 cards with striking illustrations that immediately establish the jovial mood and inject the humor that lasts and lasts.
You better know the cards first!
- If you pick an Exploding Kitten card, you die and pack up with no cards unless you use a Defuse card to escape.
- The Defuse card stops an exploding kitten and you escape alive.
- The Nope card stops anything except an exploding kitten. Play nope cards as many times at any time, even if it is not your turn.
- A Skip card helps you avoid drawing a card once.
- A Favor indicates that you compel a player to give you a card from his hand that the player chooses.
- Shuffle enables you to shuffle the draw pile of cards.
- If you opt for See the Future, you get to view the uppermost 3 cards in the discard pile.
Special Combos refer to Two Of A Kind and Three Of A Kind.
- Two Of A Kind enables you to steal a card that belongs to a different player.
- In Three Of A Kind, you steal a particular card from a different player by playing 3 matching kittens. Conversely, if the player does not possess the card you named, you achieve nothing.
- Empty cards do nothing in particular!
How to play
In order to begin a game, the four Exploding Kittens and six Defuse cards are removed from the deck. Among the 42 remaining cards, four cards are distributed to each player, facing down. A Defuse card is also handed over and each player now has 5 cards. Replace all four Kittens on the deck if the game has five players, three if the game has four players and so on. The idea is that only one survivor will remain after the exploding kittens have killed every other player. That survivor is the winner of the game and gets whatever bounty was decided upon like any other card game! Russian roulette indeed! Regarding the six defuse cards too, if the game has two players, they receive one each and two are placed in the deck. The remaining two would be removed from the game.

Are we right in calling a tabletop game a war? Each little game and so many exist nowadays represents a piece of action and appears like war for those special moments of fantasy. While forests and seas are not on the agenda and no mines and aircraft, submarines and torpedoes, yet the game does encourage planning and conflict in order to avoid opponents and their traps. Traditional card games may have a history of violence and cheating as practiced even in the sleek, technological casinos to this day, whether online or in real buildings.
Exploding Kittens may have none of that, but you do need to avoid that kitten trap and escape is possible if you end up drawing a kitten from the draw pile. The other pile is the discard pile. When you manipulate cards and draws, the purpose is to get one over the others and succeed in escaping the kitten threat.
The skill develops over a few sessions of hectic playing. Beginning with skepticism may be natural in something that looks so intrinsically innocent. As you go along, you discover nuances you never imagined before as the game begins to get a hold upon your thoughts and emotions.
Imagine the scene
Perhaps a party or a picnic is in session. After the greetings and refreshments, music plays and boys and girls have retired to their corners or maybe dance away to the heavens. A few decide to play music while others open up Exploding Kittens. Other groups have brought favorite games along too. You would have already learned the basics by then, like learning to ride a bicycle. Nothing very complicated either, like steering a car through bitterly crowded streets.
That’s right, meant for the family
Though we said 7 years, the whole family loves the game. Few aspects of contemporary life can be as pristine as Exploding Kittens but avoid the NSFW version. Otherwise, every age group and family get-together represent ideal occasions without the prejudice many people hold against card games. No hint of evil or doom comes your way and exquisite illustrations fill the mind with positive thoughts in developing clever strategies.
So how does the game proceed?
Now that you are getting the basics of the game, labor on. When you take your turn, play one card from your hand of five and place it face upwards on the discard pile, the other being the draw pile. You need to follow the instructions on the card, but some cards come with no instructions and that is fine too. Empty cards are played in pairs.
Finally, you take a card from the draw pile with the hope that it is not a kitten. If a kitten it is, remedial measures would be needed to survive, like using a Defuse card.
Such a procedure continues in a clockwise sequence around the table or the ground if it’s a picnic until the winner emerges.
A few points to note:
- Though you receive only five cards initially, you can never run out of cards to play with. The draw pile would not be exhausted and you would draw one even without a card in your hand.
- Though you started with five cards, no minimum or maximum hand size needs to bother you.
- The game allows you to count the cards in the Draw pile.

Like the instructions on a television or fridge manual, the differing cards have their unique instructions besides the empty cards that say nothing and serve no particular purpose.
